Amy Tetreault
Tree Care Industry Association

As the marketing & PR coordinator, Amy works to grow TCIA's presence on the web by developing and executing social media campaigns. Dedicated to advancing TCIA, Amy also develops and writes marketing materials (both print and digital); contributes to TCIA publications; maintains traditional marketing campaigns; and performs public relations and promotional outreach.

Bob Rouse
Tree Care Industry Association

Bob has over 30 years experience in the green industry, including many years as a practicing arborist. As the chief program officer, Bob provides direction for TCIA Accreditation programs, the TCIAF loss control program, and TCIA credentialing programs, including EHAP and Tree Care Academy. Bob is the secretary for the ANSI 300 tree care standards. He also provides leadership for TCIA's membership and marketing activities. Bob has served TCIA and its members since 1997.

Charlie Tentas
Tree Care Industry Association

Charlie is the account representative for TCIA’s Accreditation and CTSP programs. Charlie can help you enroll in, and manage the process of, Accreditation and Certification. He is responsible for the Resellers Program, which offers TCIA training books and DVD’s to arborist and tree care supply vendors worldwide. Charlie also oversees the part-time regional outreach coordinators located in strategic areas across the U.S.

Cynthia Mills
The Leaders' Haven

Cynthia Mills, FASAE, CAE, CMC, CPC, CCRC is an executive and personal coach, consultant, board facilitator, speaker, author, teacher, CEO and practitioner who works nationally and internationally. Founder of The Leaders’ Haven, LLC, Cynthia partners with others to transform lives into callings and helps companies, associations, and non-profits exceed their expectations. Formerly President and CEO of TCIA, she helped lead the Transformation of the Industry from 1999-2009.   She is looking forward to being with the TCIA family and her arborist friends in November.

Dan Herms
Ohio Agriculture Research & Development Center

Dan Herms is Professor and Chair in the Department of Entomology at Ohio State University, where his research focuses on insect pests of trees in urban and natural forests.  He holds a B.S. and M.S. from Ohio State University and a Ph.D. from Michigan State University.

David Lee
Tree Care Industry Association

David works to build awareness of TCIA and convey the value of membership and programs. He regularly attends regional meetings and trade shows around the country, plus visits TCIA members and is responsible for membership recruitment and retention.

Donald Blair
Author

As an arborist, author, lecturer, and photographer, Don Blair has informed and entertained arborists around the world for over 40 years.  Don has been a member of TCIA for over 30 years and is a proud recipient of their prestigious Award of Merit.  He resides in Maryland with the true love of his life, Laurie, and their dog, Duncan.

Doug Malawsky
HMI Advantage

Doug currently serves as HMI’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, and is responsible for the Insurance Claims and Emergency Response division.  Doug’s responsibilities include managing a national network of 2,500 professional tree crews and approximately 1,600 arborists that provide services to the insurance industry.  Some of the services that Doug is responsible for include emergency tree removals and consultative services, which he provides for over 25 insurance companies and numerous adjusting and restoration firms nationwide. His consultations cover cause of loss opinions, replacement cost analysis for dead and damaged plant material, subrogation reports and more.

Dr. Bruce Fraedrich Ph.D.
Bartlett Tree Research Labs

Bruce Fraedrich is the Vice President of Research at the F.A. Bartlett Tree Expert Company and the Director of Bartlett Tree Research Laboratories .  In this position, Dr. Fraedrich is responsible for directing research, technical support and training functions for the Bartlett Company.    His research interests include diseases of landscape plants, tree risk management and planting and establishment of landscape plants.  He received a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from Clemson University and a Masters in Forestry from Duke University.  Dr. Fraedrich received the L.C. Chadwick Award for Arboricultural Research from the International Society of Arboriculture in 2005. He lives in Lake Wylie, SC with wife Lyn where he is an avid gardener.  They have two grown children and two grandchildren.

E. Thomas Smiley, Ph.D.
Bartlett Tree Experts

Dr. Tom Smiley is an arboricultural researcher at the Bartlett Tree Research Laboratory in Charlotte, NC and an adjunct professor of Urban Forestry at Clemson University.

Dr. Smiley is active in the arboriculture industry and has co-authored the ISA’s Best Management Practices for Tree Risk Assessment, Lightning Protection, Fertilization, Support Systems and Construction Management.

His research has led to improved methods of increasing sidewalk longevity near trees, protecting more trees from lightning damage, improving tree root growth in compacted soil using the patented Root Invigoration process, and better predicting trees failures.

Ed Laflamme
Harvest Group

Ed Laflamme and Bill Arman are self-proclaimed Fierce Competitors.  Ed, who has 42 years of experience in the industry, grew the largest landscape company in Connecticut.  Bill, a 37 year veteran of the industry, was a Vice President for Valley Crest in California and led a $25 million dollar portfolio.  In 2007, they came together to form the Harvest Group, where they now consult with landscape owners and teach them to be Fierce Competitors as well.

Eric Petersen

After graduating from UW-Stevens Point with a Forestry degree and working in the field, Eric combined his forestry background with his insurance knowledge to successfully create his agency’s exclusive ArboRisk Program.  Because of the challenges with obtaining proper insurance for the tree care industry, Eric focuses his attention on helping his clients lower their overall cost of risk, especially their Workers’ Compensation.  Eric is heavily involved in the Wisconsin Arborist Association, currently serving as the association’s President-Elect.

Eric Wiseman, Ph.D.
Virginia Tech

Dr. Eric Wiseman is a professor of urban forestry and arboriculture at Virginia Tech in the Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation.  He received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Forestry and Wildlife from Virginia Tech and a Ph.D. in Forest Resources from Clemson University.  His research and extension efforts focus on arboricultural practices, urban forest ecophysiology, and urban forest inventory and analysis.

Gary Ickes

Gary Ickes is an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist and Municipal Specialist; a TCIA Certified Treecare Safety Professional and approved EHAP instructor; a past president of the Alabama Urban Forestry Association; and Alabama State Director for ISA Southern Chapter. He has more than 20 years’ experience in arboriculture.

Glen Stanosz, Ph.D.
University of Wisconsin-Madison

Dr. Glen R. Stanosz is a native of Milwaukee.  He earned a B.S. degree in Forest Biology from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Plan Pathology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Glen is now an ISA certified arborist, plant health consultant, and a professor of tree and forest health at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  He conducts research on fungi and diseases they cause on trees and shrubs, and teaches students in horticulture, landscape architecture, and forestry, as well as professionals in the green industry.

Guy Meilleur is a BCMA and a Municipal, Utility and Tree Climbing Specialist.  Guy has spent 48 years in commercial arboriculture, and was formally a staff arborist at University of North Carolina and an instructor at Duke University.

J. David Driver

David Driver started working in tree service work at the age of 15.  He has an A.A. degree in forest technology.  At the age of 21 he created his own tree service business, Arbor-X Inc. He is one of main climbers and ISA Certified Arborists at Arbor-X.

Jeffrey Hammond
Fox Sports

Jeff Hammond is one of the best motivational speakers in the NASCAR community, and often uses his NASCAR experience to deliver his teamwork-oriented lectures.

Jeff’s career in NASCAR began in 1974 when he worked as a tire changer for Walter Ballard.  He became one of the best jackmen in the business, and served on all three of driver Cale Yarborough’s Winston Cup champion seasons. He was eventually promoted to the crew chief position in 1982, after which he secured 43 wins for his team, placing him in the record books as one of NASCAR’s all-time great crew chiefs.

Jeff Hammond joined Fox Sports at the end of 2000 Winston Cup season.  He and partner Chris Myers host the weekly pre-race show from the famed “Hollywood Hotel”, usually located near Victory Lane at each race track.  Jeff also contributes to the race coverage on Fox and FX with booth announcers Mike Joy, Larry McReynolds and Darrell Waltrip.

Jeff can also be seen every Wednesday night at 6 p.m. eastern on Totally NASCAR on Fox Sports Net.

Jim Zwack
Davey Institute

Jim Zwack has a B.S. in Urban Forestry and an M.S. in Tree Physiology.  He is the Director of the Technical Staff at the Davey Institute.  Jim has spent the majority of his career helping others understand tree injection techniques and how to utilize them in their businesses.

John Ball, Ph.D.
South Dakota State University

John Ball is a Professor of Forestry at South Dakota State University, where he instructs courses in forestry and arboriculture and teaches the rock climbing and the emergency medical technician classes. He conducts research in tree worker safety among other arboricultural topics, and also serves as the campus arborist. Dr. Ball is a certified arborist, forester, tree care safety professional, wall climbing instructor and an emergency medical technician.

Kevin T. Smith
USDA Forest Service

Smith has served for 27 years as plant physiologist in the USDA Forest Service.  His expertise includes tree pathology, dendrochronology, and forest mycology.  He has authored more than 100 publications and received national awards for research excellence including the Harris Award for excellence in education from the Western Chapter of ISA. He is an honorary life member of the New Hampshire Arborist Association.

Melissa LeVangie
Trees New England

Melissa LeVangie has been a passionate member of the field of arboriculture for over 15 years. Ms. LeVangie is the Owner/Operator of an arboricultural consulting firm called Trees New England, which is based in Central Massachusetts.  She provides consulting to private, state and federal entities and develops safety programs and websites for small tree care companies.  Melissa also works as a Tree Climbing Inspector for the USDA Asian Longhorned Beetle Eradication Program in Worcester, MA.  She is an International Society of Arborists (ISA) Certified Tree Worker and Certified Arborist, as well as a certified arborist in New Hampshire and Massachusetts and a Certified Tree Safety Professional (CTSP).

She is also involved with numerous professional organizations that advance arboriculture. Melissa is past President of the Massachusetts Tree Wardens and Foresters Association, and past President of the New England Chapter of ISA.  She currently is the Chair of the New England ISA Tree Climbing Competition.

She enjoys giving arboricultural presentations to organizations like garden clubs, cemetery associations, and conferences alike – educating people about the importance, health and magic of trees.

Melissa has also assisted to develop an annual Women’s Tree Climbing Workshop which has educated artists, interested professionals, photographers, and tree enthusiasts about tree climbing techniques.

In her spare time, Melissa enjoys riding her motorcycle, cycling and running.

Michael Galvin

Mike Galvin is a Registered Consulting Arborist and Director of the Consulting Group at SaveATree.  He is a 2011 ISA True Professionals of Arboriculture winner, a 2007 TCIA Advancing Arboriculture recipient, a 2004 TRIA Pet Felix Volunteer of the Year Awardee, and a founding member of the TCIA Accreditation Council.

Norm Hall
Arborist

Norm started part time tree care in 1969 and became full time in 1971.  He did his first crane assisted tree removal in 1987 using an 18 ton crane, and was one of the first to use multiple sling tie offs for crane work. Norm has removed trees using up to 200 ton cranes in Illinois, Wisconsin, Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C. and California.

Patrick Parker

Patrick graduated from the University of Massachusetts with an AS Degree in Arboriculture and Park Management and a BS Degree in Urban Forestry. He is an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist and a Registered Consulting Arborist with the American Society of Consulting Arborists. Patrick is active with several industry associations including service on the Board of Directors of the NY Alliance For Environmental Concerns and as a member of the Education Committee of the CT Tree Protective Association. As the Director of the PHC Program, Patrick is responsible for ensuring that all PHC treatments are performed effectively and efficiently with concern for the environment and compliance with all regulations.

Peter Gerstenberger
Tree Care Industry Association

With over 30 years experience as a practicing arborist and the senior advisor for safety, standards and compliance at TCIA, Peter manages the department responsible for developing TCIA's safety and technical programs and heads up TCIA's regulatory affairs initiatives. He is also responsible for the Certified Treecare Safety Professional program and acts as staff liaison to TCIA's Safety and Education Committee and TCIA’s Alternate Representative to the ANSI Z133 Committee. Peter writes columns and articles for TCIA publications and speaks at arborist meetings around the country on safety and regulatory issues. Peter has served TCIA and its members since 1985.

Phil Lewis
U.S. Department of Agriculture

Dr. Lewis is a research scientist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. His research focuses on the chemical control of invasive, exotic insect pests of trees.  He has been working on control methods of invasives for the past 15 years, beginning with salt cedar in Texas and more recently the Asian long-horned beetle and emerald ash borer.

Sam Kezar
Aspen Arboriculture Solutions, LLC

Sam, who is BCMA and CTSP certified, is the owner of Aspen Arboriculture Solutions, LLC. His company is dedicated to safe work practices, tree preservation, training and education. Sam lives in northwest Minnesota with his wife and two children.  When not consulting or presenting, Sam devotes time to running his tree care company.

Scott Jamieson
Bartlett Tree Experts

Scott is Vice President with Bartlett Tree Experts. He leads Bartlett’s national recruiting and corporate partnerships efforts. He also heads the Bartlett Inventory Solutions team, which provides innovative and technologically advanced tree management plans to clients across the country. Prior to joining Bartlett in 2008, Scott was President and CEO of a national tree care firm with revenues of over $50 million.

Scott serves as a director on a number of boards, including The Alliance for Community Trees, PLANET and Openlands. He is the former Chair of the Board for the Tree Care Industry Association and a former board member for the National Safety Council.

He received a B.S. in Urban Forestry from Purdue University, where he has been honored as a Distinguished Alumni. He also received an M.S. in Urban Forestry from Michigan State and an MBA from DePaul. Scott lives with his wife and two children just outside Chicago in Arlington Heights, IL.

Todd Kramer
Kramer Tree Specialist, Inc.

Todd is a Certified Arborist, Certified Tree Worker, Climber and Aerial Lift Specialist, TCIA Certified Tree Care Safety Professional, and a Certified Crane Operator.  He has been climbing for 25 years and teaches climbing, rigging, crane removal, aerial rescue and emergency response courses throughout the country.  Todd has worked for private companies, municipalities, utilities, and ISA chapters as well as TCIA.  He is also a 10 time I1. chapter tree climbing champion and placed fourth at the ITCC in 2007.  Todd is currently the Director of Field Operations and Education at the family owned and operated Kramer Tree Specialist, Inc. in West Chicago, IL.

Dr. W. Todd Watson, Ph.D. has been an international plant health care consultant for over 25 years and provides consulting services to numerous companies and properties throughout the US and beyond.  He is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management at Texas A&M University where he was named a Montague Teaching Scholar in 2005.  In addition, he is a member of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and is the Past President of the ISA Texas Chapter.  He is an ISA Board-Certified Master Arborist (TX-0974b) and was voted Texas Arborist of the Year in 2003.  He has authored several articles in research journals and professional publications, and he has provided numerous tree and landscape presentations throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico.
